Oh No

"Good morning Princess Flurry Heart," a guard greeted as the princess strolled through the halls of the Crystal Palace.

"Just Flurry, please," she corrected, it was always so weird being called by her full name, she much preferred to be called by her first name.

"Yes, Princess."

Flurry nodded and continued down the hall, greeting the ponies she passed as she made her way to the stadium. She made her way to the royal box and sat in the violet and teal throne emblazoned with her cutie mark. A sigh escaped her lips, this was her favorite time of day, when the new recruits were doing their drills.

"Listen up, maggots!" A powerful voice rang out from the field. Flurry saw a pair of white and purple wings splayed proudly from underneath a familiar set of armor. Skyla stood in front of her subordinates, her lieutenant standing at her side holding a spear and shield.

"Today, you will be demonstrating your proficiency with the various weapons you have been training with. In order for me to feel that you have successfully completed basic combat training, you must show proficiency in all seven standard weapons and excellence in at least one. Most of you have a preferred weapon that once you become a guard, you will use almost exclusively, however each has it's own advantages, and there will be situations where your preferred weapon is not the best option. As you all know, my preferred weapon is the spear accompanied by a shield, Lyssa here prefers the short sword."

The lieutenant, Lyssa, nodded, the tiny mare dwarfed by her superior officer.

"Now, we will begin with..." Skyla continued on, but Flurry didn't pay much attention. She was lost in her own little world, smiling proudly at the mare her baby sister was becoming. She watched on as the trainees sparred and ran drills with the weapons, all the while her sister barking orders at them. Occasionally she would praise or admonish a recruit, her harsh tone made it hard to tell. At one point, Skyla and Lyssa spared together, each one very skilled in their chosen armaments and landed several blows on each other.

Flurry bolted up out of her seat, her eyes going wide. She focused on the two mares, her heart beating rapidly. Flurry could see Lyssa bringing her sword down in a strike Skyla was not prepared for, and in a split second, the whole world went silent as the word escaped Flurry's lips.

"Freeze..."

The ice had covered the royal box and extended past into the bleachers. A line extended far past the rest of the frost, and covered the ground around the recruits. The lieutenant's sword was caught in an inverted icicle, the spike positioning itself between the two mares, as if to take the blow.

Skyla observed the situation, and saw where the ice had originated. "You are all dismissed, back to the barracks, everyone!" she ordered.

"Yes Ma'am," they affirmed as Skyla flew up to where her elder sister stood.

"Flurry," the younger alicorn called. "Flurry!"

But the elder gave no response, her breath was heavy and her eyes unfocused.

"Flurry Heart!" Skyla cried.

The princess's head turned towards her younger sister. In her eyes there was nothing, no light, no warmth. Her eyes were distant...

and cold.

"Oh no..." Skyla could feel tears begin to roll down her face as she wrapped her hooves around her sister, "hang on sis, please..."

I swear guys, I do actually like Flurry Heart, she's just so much fun to torture.

In my NextGen universe, Flurry grows up to be extremely powerful, but also has no control over her immense magic power. She also has ice powers and uses power words, albeit unintentionally. Her younger sister Skyla, is less powerful, but more in control of her magic. They love each other very much and Skyla tries very hard to help her sister keep it together.
